Profile
Dr. Hani Choudhry graduated from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science., King Abdulaziz Univesrity (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with honours in 2006. He then received an MSc with Distinction in Molecular Medicine from the University of Sheffield in 2009, where he worked on the epigenetic regulation of microRNA expression in bladder cancer. He completed his DPhil in Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford, UK.
He has been involved in the development of clinical applications of high throughput sequencing technologies to investigate cancer genomics, in particular hypoxic tumours. He has been working under close supervision of leading figures in cancer genomics; Prof. Ioannis Ragoussis (Head of Genomic Sciences, McGill University), Prof. Adrian Harris (Director of Molecular Oncology Laboratories- John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford), Prof. Peter Ratcliffe (Head of Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford) and Dr. David Mole (University of Oxford).
His scientific interests focus on gene expression and epigenomic profiling of solid tumours, and the integration of both clinical and pathological information with data generated from high-throughput molecular techniques. His work addresses the impact of intra-tumor gene expression heterogeneity on the biology and clinical behaviour of solid tumours for the development of molecular diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers. During his postgraduate tenure, he identified a number of novel transcripts/genes that are associated with prognosis and clinico-pathological features of hypoxic breast cancer.
